Rick Smith is Vice President of Operations and a Senior Consultant with SSI. Rick graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Construction Management. He has over twenty-three years experience in the design, construction, and evaluation of high performance concrete floors and pavements.

 

As manager of engineering services for a major fiber producing company, Smith focused on advancement of steel-fiber reinforced concrete in numerous applications including industrial floor slabs, industrial floor overlays, suspended slab construction, pavements, bridge deck overlays, impact-resistant concrete, and various other civil and industrial applications.

 

Rick has extensive experience in concrete technology, including concrete mix design, Portland and supplementary cementing materials (fly ash, silica fume and blast furnace slag), concrete aggregates, steel and synthetic fibers, and chemical admixtures. Prior to joining SSI, Rick guided the development of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete-Design Guide 3.2 and Fiber Reinforced Concrete Design Program for design professionals. He has provided thickness analysis, mix designs, specifications, technical papers, educational seminars and domestic and international on-site representation for a wide range of projects.

 

Rick is a member of ACI Committees 360 (Design of Slabs on Ground), 302 (Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction), and 544 (Fiber Reinforced Concrete). He is an instructor for the American Concrete Institute's Continuing Education Seminar program, Construction of Concrete Slabs on Ground.
