Rick Smith to Retire from Structural Services Inc.

Structural Services Inc. (SSI) today announced that Rick Smith, the firm’s Vice-Chairman, Senior Consultant and Principal, will retire effective August 15, 2022.

Rick will continue to assist as a Technical Resource for Structural Services Inc.

Smith joined SSI in June of 2000 and has served in his current role since January 2022.  Prior to that, Rick served for eight years as President, where he oversaw the daily operations and management processes.

During Smith’s 22-year tenure at SSI, he has played a critical role in helping the firm adapt to significant changes in the Concrete Industry and to grow the firm’s leadership & stature. In the process, he served as a champion for establishing new clients for SSI while at the same time contributing significantly to the Concrete Industry delivering hundreds of private, American Concrete Institute (ACI) and World of Concrete (WOC) seminars, publishing articles, and serving on ACI Committees 302, 360 and 544.   Rick has been a longstanding voting member of both ACI Committee 302 Construction of Concrete Floors (including past Chair) and Committee 360 Design of Slabs-on-Ground. Rick is also a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

From 2013 to January 2022, he served as President of SSI, where he was instrumental in overseeing company growth and managing the daily activities of SSI, which involved consulting on more than 100,000,000-SF of floor slabs and pavements annually for industrial, commercial, and retail projects in the U.S. and other countries.

SSI has been an industry leader in design and construction consulting services for over three decades. Many of SSI’s personnel have pioneered innovative designs, placement, finishing and testing procedures for slabs-on-ground, pavements, suspended slabs, and decorative concrete. SSI’s personnel have published numerous papers, serve on industry standards committees in leadership positions, received industry awards, and teach seminars.
